AW24 SUPERCULTURE

av vattev’s AW24 Men's Collection, ‘superculture’, is inspired by the Rock Against Racism movement from the 1970s, an iconic series of music festivals in Britain that united listeners from all backgrounds with a shared love of music. The collection captures the spirit of unity, cultural exchange, and rebellion against societal divides.

av vattev presents a contemporary fusion of movements spanning from the late '60s to the early 2020s, drawing inspiration from the likes of Mick Jagger, Liam Gallagher and British subcultures like Mod, Skinhead and Punk. These influences seamlessly meld with the brand's distinctive aesthetic and signature elements, creating an of-the-moment collection that resonates with today's landscape.

Syd Shelton's photographs of the Rock Against Racism movement are a key inspiration, capturing skinheads dancing to Jamaican ska, punks embracing reggae, and black children connecting with punk. These images vividly portray the power of music to bridge cultural differences during a turbulent period marked by racial, class, and gender divisions. At the forefront of the collection is av vattev’s signature Jukebox tailoring in dark brown pinstriped satin, reminiscent of an iconic 1965 picture of Mick Jagger with Francoise Hardy. The striped rugby shirt that Jagger wore in the picture has been reworked by av vattev - presented in a new colourway and featuring av vattev’s logo of the Scottish national flower, the thistle.
Liam Gallagher's unmistakable influence permeates the collection, evident in the parka, oversized knitwear with tartan elements, and contemporary shirt-anorak pieces. The hooded parka, presented in a brown-washed effect with av vattev's signature jukebox closure on the chest pairs seamlessly with muddy brown sprayed effect rave jeans, evoking the feeling of dancing in a field all weekend.

Innovative shirt-anorak pieces undergo a modern transformation. Featuring a pleated V-neck collar in silver-black plaid woven patterns, plain dusty pink, or black cotton, these pieces reflect av vattev's commitment to merging timeless style with contemporary design. The collection modernises key pieces from the Skinhead subculture with bomber jackets, tracksuits, shirting, and beanies. The bubble-shaped bomber jackets in grey waterproof coated cotton or classic black are adorned with the jukebox closure wrapped around the neck.
Sleeveless shirts in pinstripe grey, black, or brown cotton with contrast top stitching are fused with a band collar, paying homage to leather jackets from the "Swinging Sixties."
